We had a family gathering at Easter time at my Uncle's Property at Lake Victoria Station on the Murray River. Salt bush seems to be about the only plant that can survive in a drought, and the few sheep that roam are forced to eat it.

Execellent shot. From what I've seen on TV things are very serious on the Murray River and have been for a while. Trouble is, if it's not in the news all the time, people forget and nothing gets done. Hope your family are coping okay. :-)

Thanks, my uncle is actually doing fine - this property of his is actually more of a hobby than anything else would you believe! Himself and his family usually go there for a break. This is from running his Helicopter Pilot Training School in Victoria. He has bulldozed his own runway and flies one of his planes in - beats travelling 800km by car! Sometimes he has to do a fly-over first to scare the roos off the runway.

Awesome shot! The colours just leap out at you!
Hubby & I spent 8 months in Katherine N.T many years ago, working on the RAAF base at Tindall when it was being built... so a scene like this will bring back very fond memories.
Unfortunately, when you realise this is a photo of drought, it's quite saddening.
...I'm glad I'm not a sheep!

Thanks - it is only a hobby farm of theirs so they don't really mind too much about the drought as they don't rely upon the property for income. Their Helicopter training school in Victoria keeps them out of trouble!

How many acres doe they have? We are on 30 acres & we only have a few cows... ours would be a hobby farm also. Glad your Uncle has another income to live off.
(I have always wanted a ride in a helicopter!)

Nice. I'd wish I had 30 lush acres to run a few aminals on. My uncle's station is now about 20,000 acres. It started off at 50,000 acres but sold a bit because it was just too much. The vast majority of it is useless without a regular water supply but it still supports a few sheep and cows (and plenty native animals like roos and emus - damn they can run when chased on motorcylce)...

Wow... 20,000 acres! Gee, ours is just a drop... or water vapor compared to theirs! ;)
Chasing emus on motorbikes sound like fun... for you, not the emu. Would be funny to watch!
